“Is it okay to put an area rug over wall-to-wall carpet?”

Yes! Area rugs are a fantastic way to bring new life into a space. They can add a pop of colour or texture in a way that doesn’t require a total room overhaul.

Here are a few pointers for choosing an area rug to layer over a carpet:
👉Make sure the textures vary – area rugs generally work best over short-pile or looped carpets
👉Size matters – your rug must be scaled to the size of the room. A small rug “floating” in the middle of a room can look awkward.
👉Make sure the colour of the rug complements the colour of the carpet (don’t try and cover up a carpet you don’t like with a rug that clashes with it – it will end up looking worse!)
👉One pattern at a time – either the carpet or the rug should be patterned, not both.
👉Anchor it to avoid it bunching up or becoming a tripping hazard.

I gutted this bathroom entirely and began with a blank canvas - my favourite!

Using the same floor tile through-out and opting for a frameless shower, creates an uninterrupted look - drawing the eye in and opening up the space to make it feel much bigger than it is.

To make an impact with a decorative display, detailed groupings of three create interest and complete a room design.

Odd numbered groupings are eye-catching and are more appealing and memorable than even numbered groupings.

Remember to mix contrasting or complementary materials and to add a bit of height on lower surfaces!
